The aging population comprises a sizeable population having NCDs including diabetes mellitus. The swelling number of diabetes mellitus translates to more people with microvascular complications. With advancing age, the prevalence of neuropathy, peripheral vascular disease, increases manifolds, which themselves are risk factors for diabetic foot. Therefore, the prevalence of diabetic foot increases with increasing duration of the disease. The lifetime risk for foot complications in patients with diabetes is 15% and contributes to significant mortality and morbidity.
